Solar power after rewetting

Description of the Business As Usual (BAU)

Peatlands drained for agricultural use, leading to oxidation of peat soil and substantial CO2 emissions. Focus on conventional crops (e.g., maize, wheat) and arable farming not suited to wet conditions, requiring drainage and heavy inputs.

Description of the system change

Rewetting halts peat oxidation and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by raising water tables. Solar panels are installed on rewetted land, combining all-year round renewable energy generation while carbon storage is mantained in peatlands. Minimal soil disruption should be ensured during installation.
